I just installed the clear cache button - so where is the button?

The clear cache button does not install directly to your browser's tool bar. Rather, it can be found in the tool bar customization dialog.

Right-click on the browser tool bar and select "Customize...". Find the clear cache button in the Customize tool bar dialog and drag it anywhere on the tool bar that you like.

What exactly gets cleared?

The Clear Cache Button empties out Firefox's memory and disk store. To see this, open a new tab and type about:cache into the address bar. Then click the Clear Cache Button and refresh the about:cache page. You'll see the disk and memory values drop to zero.
